VIDEO: Maybe North Korea advanced past the group stage
Facts be damned.
While most of us have been enjoying a phenomenal World Cup that will end on Sunday with Germany going up against Argentina in the final, this satirical video makes it seem as though North Korea is enjoying its own version of the tournament.
In this supposed alternate reality, North Korea — who actually failed to qualify — advanced past the group stage without conceding a single goal. They hammered rivals Japan and the United States 7-0 and 4-0, respectively, but took it a little easier on China, with whom they share close diplomatic relations.
Also, who knew that Kim Jong-un was so popular in Rio de Janeiro?
Of course, the reality of how North Korea is experiencing the World Cup is slightly different.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the country is actually "airing heavily censored versions of South Korean broadcasts of the games, with audio that often doesn't match the action onscreen."
The matches are also being aired about one day after they each take place. For example, Italy's 2-1 win over England was apparently broadcast over 24 hours after the final whistle had been blown.
Spoilers are of little concern for North Koreans due to the country's blackout on international media and Internet access, and most of the population aren't even aware that the matches they're watching ended quite some time ago.
The Telegraph has video footage of North Korean fans watching World Cup broadcasts, and sharing their disappointment that their national team didn't qualify for the tournament.
