Report: Li Na to retire due to knee injuries
Two-time Grand Slam champion Li Na, 32, is set to retire, according to The Guardian and BBC, via reports out of China.
State broadcaster CCTV claims world number six Li, who won the 2011 French Open and 2014 Australian Open singles titles, has chosen to hang up her racquet due to knee injury concerns.
CCTV cites unnamed sources as saying the announcement will come on Friday. Li, 32, has not commented on the reports.
Li last played at Wimbledon in late June before knee troubles kept her out of several tournaments, including the U.S. Open.
She had a successful season, going 28-7 and winning two singles titles. If her career is over, Li leaves tennis with a career record of 503-188, nine titles, and more than $16 million in career earnings.
Li, a sporting icon in China, will undoubtedly go down as her country's greatest tennis player.
