Mystik Dan, who entered at 18-1 odds, edged out Sierra Leone and Forever Young by a nose to win the 150th Kentucky Derby in a photo finish.

Sierra Leone made a bold move into the top three as the horses came around the home stretch but couldn't catch Mystik Dan and jockey Brian Hernandez Jr., who won the roses with a time of 2:03.34.

The close finish delayed the official result for several minutes while stewards reviewed all angles. It ended up as the third-closest finish since 1996, according to Beth Harris of The Associated Press.

Mystik Dan's win made Ken McPeek the first trainer since 1952 to win both the Derby and the Kentucky Oaks in the same year, according to Spectrum News 1.

The official order was Mystik Dan by a nose over second-place Sierra Leone (9/2), and Forever Young (7-1) in third. Catching Freedom and T O Password rounded out the top five.
