Serena passes Federer for most all-time Grand Slam match wins

Serena Williams is all alone atop the mountain.

With her 6-2, 6-3 fourth-round win over Yaroslava Shvedova at the US Open on Monday, Williams surpassed Roger Federer with her 308th career Grand Slam match win, the most for any player - man or woman - in the Open era.

Williams broke the WTA record for most Grand Slam victories just two days prior, passing Martina Navratilova's previously held mark following her straight-set win over Johanna Larsson.

The 34-year-old has looked dominant as she enters the quarters, with Sunday's victory marking her fourth straight-set win of the tournament.

With Federer out of the Open due to injury, Williams has the opportunity to distance herself from the Swiss maestro in the coming days, as she searches for her 23rd Grand Slam title.

When asked who would retire with more, Williams was unassertive, believing that both players would continue to add to their total before calling it quits.

''I don't know. We'll see,'' Williams said following the match. ''Hopefully we'll both keep going. I know I plan on it. I know he does. So we'll see.''

Williams will face No. 5 seed Simona Halep in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
