Serena kindly tells McEnroe to keep her name out his mouth

Serena Williams just wants one thing from John McEnroe: stop talking.

McEnroe sparked some wholly unnecessary controversy by saying that Williams would be ranked "like 700" if she played in the men's circuit during a recent interview with NPR's Lulu Garcia-Navarro.

Williams gave her response on Twitter.

Williams is arguably the greatest tennis player of all-time. She has thoroughly dominated the sport over the past two decades, collecting 23 grand slams since her first win in 1999. Discounting her accomplishments by comparing her to a 700th ranked men's player is both unproductive and uncalled for.

McEnroe called Williams a "fantastic player," but argued that experience in playing under pressure would be her only advantage over the lower rungs of the men's circuit.

"On a given day, Serena could beat some players," McEnroe said. "I believe because she's so incredibly strong mentally that she could overcome some situations where players would choke, because she's been in it so many times, so many situations at Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, etc. But if she had to just play the circuit - the men's circuit - that would be an entirely different story."
