Nadal wins record 12th French title and 3rd straight after beating Thiem

The King of Clay continues his reign at Roland Garros.

Rafael Nadal captured his record-extending 12th French Open championship Sunday with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 victory over Dominic Thiem. It's his third straight title in Paris and second final win in a row over Thiem.

The 25-year-old Thiem battled to win the second set, but Nadal came back with a vengeance to take both the third and fourth.

The victory is Nadal's third separate three-peat at Roland Garros. He has already won four straight French titles twice between 2005-08 and 2010-14.

In total, it's the 33-year-old Spaniard's 18th Grand Slam championship. He now has more French Open titles than overall Grand Slam titles won by legends Bjorn Borg and Rod Laver.
