Auger-Aliassime falls in 1st round of Wimbledon for 2nd straight year
Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime suffered a second consecutive first-round exit at Wimbledon on Monday.
Michael Mmoh surprised everyone on Court 12 with a 7-6 (4), 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-4 victory over the No. 11 seed. Mmoh replaced the injured Filip Krajinovic in the main draw after losing in the final round of qualifying.
Auger-Aliassime's season has yet to take off following a first-round exit on the clay at Roland Garros in June and a fourth-round defeat at the Australian Open in January.
The 22-year-old, who made a run to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in 2021, lost his first match at the All England Club last year when he was seeded sixth.
It's unclear how much the Montreal native's knee affected his performance against Mmoh. Auger-Aliassime withdrew from Wimbledon's warmup events to recover and played with his left knee heavily wrapped on Monday.
"It was a long process," he told TSN's Mark Masters before his match. "Hopefully it's all behind me very soon, but I'm in a better place now than I was a couple of weeks ago, a couple of months ago."
