<p>Forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/2982" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/2982">Draymond Green</a> accepted responsibility for the Golden State Warriors' poor defense in Saturday's 125-114 road loss to the Atlanta Hawks.</p><p>The Warriors conceded 40 points in the first quarter, and Green acknowledged his part in his team's lack of defensive effort.</p><p>"We've got to be better. That starts with me; we were terrible defensively," Green told reporters, according to <a href="https://x.com/anthonyVslater/status/1903627213695500434">The Athletic's Anthony Slater</a>.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"We just didn't come out like we were ready to play," Green added. "We got diced up in the first quarter, and from that point on, we were fighting an uphill battle."</p><p>Green's comments come after the 13-year NBA veteran <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3245874" href="https://thescore.com/news/3245874">claimed</a> he had a "1 million percent" case for winning Defensive Player of the Year following a victory over the Milwaukee Bucks earlier this week.</p><p>The 35-year-old won the league's top individual prize for defenders in 2017 and is a four-time NBA All-Defensive first-team member.</p><p>Green finished Saturday's loss with five points on 2-of-7 shooting paired with six rebounds, six assists, three steals, and a block. Jimmy Butler led the Warriors with 25 points, while Moses Moody chipped in 20.</p><p>"Bad loss. It's a terrible loss," Green said. "Eleven games left with everything to play for, you shouldn't have a loss like this."</p><p>The Warriors were without Steph Curry against the Hawks after the 11-time All-Star injured his pelvis during Thursday's win over the Toronto Raptors.</p><p>Saturday's loss was just Golden State's fourth in its last 20 games since acquiring Butler from the Miami Heat in a blockbuster trade that sent Andrew Wiggins the other way. The Warriors take on the Heat in Miami on Tuesday, marking Butler's first return to face his former team since the trade.</p><p>The 41-30 Warriors are a half-game up on the Clippers for the Western Conference's sixth and final automatic playoff berth.</p>

<p>Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star<a href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/44998"> Donovan Mitchell</a> shouldered the blame for Friday's loss to the Phoenix Suns following an uncharacteristic performance.</p><p>"Put this on me," Mitchell said, according to CBS Sports' <a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/donovan-mitchell-blames-himself-for-cavaliers-fourth-straight-loss-im-not-being-who-i-need-to-be/">James Herbert</a>. "When your leader ain't doing shit, this is what happens. Yeah, we have to guard better, rebound, shit like that. But if I'm not being who I need to be, then we're not going to get to where we want to get to."</p><p>Mitchell recorded a season-low seven points on 2-of-18 shooting punctuated by an 0-of-8 display from beyond the arc. The Eastern Conference-leading Cavs have hit a rough patch lately on the heels of a franchise-best 16-game winning streak and have dropped four consecutive contests, their worst stretch of the campaign.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"It's been like this for the past four games, and we've lost four straight," Mitchell added. </p><p>Kevin Durant led all scorers with 42 points for the 34-37 Suns, who have now won three straight to vault the Dallas Mavericks for the fourth and final play-in spot.</p><p>"I have to be better, simple as that. You can point to all these different things, yeah: KD having 30-whatever, we gave him some - f--- all that, it's on me," Mitchell said.</p><p>Mitchell missed the final matchup of Cleveland's 16-game run due to groin soreness before returning for the current skid. In the four contests since his one-game absence, the 28-year-old has shot 29.5% from the field and 6-of-37 from deep, well below his season averages.</p><p>"I have to be better for the group. I've been good for the group all year, and this is on me," Mitchell said.</p><p>"I'm a sicko for this shit, man," Mitchell added. "This tests what you really are mentally, just continuing to push. And I have no doubt, I haven't lost confidence in my abilities. It's going to come, it's going to happen. But until I continue to be who I've been, this is what happens."</p><p>Evan Mobley chipped in with 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Cavs, and according to the fourth-year defensive whiz, Mitchell isn't the only one who deserves blame for their struggles.</p><p>"I feel like we all started slow. We weren't getting rebounds, we weren't necessarily getting stops. Some shots weren't falling for (Mitchell) and some other people as well, but we can't just put everything on him," Mobley said.</p><p>Mitchell and Co. will look to bounce back when they visit the lowly Utah Jazz on Sunday. The six-time All-Star said he's happy to take the criticism for the Cavs if the losing streak continues.</p><p>"There's really nowhere else to look, to be honest with you," Mitchell said. "So I'll be better. I'll figure it the f--- out for everybody."</p>

The contest was just the second time Jacob watched an entire game in person and the first time seeing his father play.</p><p>"It's emotional," Finch told reporters after the game, according to <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/44352145/wolves-ingles-makes-first-start-22-son-jacob-attendance">ESPN</a>. "Sometimes, you have to do the human thing. And you always talk about all these minutes matter. Those minutes matter for another reason."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"And I figured if we're going to do it, let's do it in style," Finch added.</p><p>The autism spectrum disorder is a neurological and developmental disorder that can alter how people learn, interact, communicate, and behave.</p><p>"As a dad, just really proud that he's worked so hard every day at school and therapy and speech and everything that he has to do to fit in - in a not-very-friendly world a lot of the time," Ingles said <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ihki6nryFnQ">postgame</a>.</p><p>Ingles finished scoreless in six minutes of play, but Finch said the decision to include the Australian in the starting five helped inspire the team to a lopsided win.</p><p>"Guys were behind it, and I think it gave us just the right boost that we needed and a change of energy," Finch said. "It's not often you get to do those types of things, but we're really happy that we could."</p><p>Ingles' wife and their two other children were also in attendance as the veteran made his first start since Jan. 30, 2022. Ingles spoke about the challenges of autism and the importance of raising awareness.</p><p>"The reality of it is I just don't think people understand. It gets kind of confused because of the money and the lifestyle," Ingles said. "It is a little less stressed because I can afford to pay for Jacob to get what he needs.</p><p>"But it doesn't take away the meltdowns in the supermarket. There's been so many times ... that he's laying on the floor in public. You can feel people staring at you. You know they're judging you. You know they're making comments about it. But they have no idea what he's going through that day or the night before or the situation."</p><p>Ingles added, "We'll keep doing what we do. We'll keep pushing the awareness, and we'll do whatever we can to help other families."</p>

It was his first appearance for the team since the annulled trade.</p><p>Williams claims the failed physical wasn't the only reason the Lakers nixed the deal.</p><p>"I don't think it was solely because of my physical," he said. "I felt like I could have contributed to them. But, obviously, they had second thoughts."</p><p>LeBron James, who dunked on Williams during Wednesday's contest, spoke about facing a player who was set to join the Lakers' ranks.</p><p>"He was never a teammate," James said. (Perhaps we can exclude Victor Wembanyama, who <a href="https://x.com/BenGolliver/status/1891334154371186716">appeared upset</a> when Jayson Tatum was allowed to freely drive to the hoop for the game-winning bucket.)</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>It's time for a solution, and if the NHL's current 4 Nations Face-Off hockey tournament involving the United States, Canada, Sweden, and Finland is any indication, a considerable overhaul might be the only fix.</p><h3>4 Nations has been a smashing success</h3><p>The NHL opted to scrap its 2025 All-Star Game and instead introduce the 4 Nations as a precursor to the league's return to Olympic competition in 2026.</p><p>The United States' 3-1 victory over Canada on Saturday in the fourth game of the round-robin phase had it all: anthem controversy, three fights in the opening nine seconds, and no love lost in a hyper-competitive affair that was enjoyed by hockey fans and casual viewers alike.</p><p>If the NBA were to adopt a similar idea based on its primary demographics, now is the time. Each of the last six MVP awards have gone to players born outside the U.S. (Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, and Nikola Jokic) and Canada's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the current favorite to win this year's honor. Of the 26 players voted as All-Stars or selected as injury replacements for this year's game, eight players were either born outside the U.S. or represent another country in international competition.</p><p>The NBA has never been more international than it currently is, and if the league looks to replace the stagnant All-Star Weekend with a competition with a global flare, it could do worse than copy its NHL counterpart.</p><p>With this in mind, here's a hypothetical look at an international competition that would replace All-Star Weekend.</p><h3>Format</h3><p>Four 12-player teams would compete in a round-robin mini-tournament. The top two teams would advance to the finals after facing the three opponents once.</p><p>Games would consist of two 15-minute halves to allow the competition to be condensed into a two-day window. "You just don't imagine you're going to get ready to go to sleep and then you find out news like that."</p><p>Irving continued: "It's still a grieving process right now. I miss my hermano."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Irving led the Mavericks with 34 points on 11-of-21 shooting in the 118-116 loss in Philadelphia. The social media post claiming that refunds have been offered has since been deleted.</p><p>"Regarding refunds, we value every season-ticket-member relationship, and reps are available to take calls from members with any concerns or questions," the Mavericks said in an email obtained by WFAA.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The statement added: "Regarding tickets, no determination has been made about season-ticket pricing for the 2025-26 season. Season-ticket members will hear from their reps over the next few weeks."</p><p>One season-ticket holder did receive a refund, per emails obtained by WFAA between the fan and a team representative.</p><p>"If we go ahead and cancel the season membership, we will cancel all remaining home games for the remainder of the season, starting with the 2/8 game vs. Houston," the email from the team representative read.</p><p>The email also states that a refund check will be mailed to the season-ticket holder, according to WFAA.</p><p>The Mavericks had the <a href="https://www.sportskeeda.com/basketball/ranking-average-nba-ticket-prices-teams-2023-24-least-expensive">11th-highest</a> average season-ticket price ($249) in the NBA last season.</p><p>Several fans gathered outside the American Airlines Center on Feb. 2 to <a href="https://x.com/jake_riepma/status/1886137541436297571">protest</a> Doncic's shocking trade to the Lakers. Cries of "Sell the team" could be heard, while other fans held signs demanding that general manager Nico Harrison be fired. There were also many tributes left outside the arena thanking Doncic for his celebrated tenure with the team.</p><p>Doncic led Dallas to the 2024 NBA Finals and was selected to the All-Star Game and All-NBA first team on five occasions during his six-and-a-half seasons with the Mavs. He also won Rookie of the Year in 2019 and led the league in scoring last season.</p>

"What if Leonard had stayed" became a common trope after the Raptors finished second in the East in 2019-20 and then bowed out in the Bubble conference semifinals in seven games to the Celtics. Concerns from the Lakers faithful that the team had offloaded too much young talent for an injury-prone big man were immediately quelled.</p><p>For the New Orleans Pelicans, obliging Davis' public trade demand and subsequently landing the No. 1 pick and Zion Williamson made sense. However, their first-ever conference finals run in 2021 would be their zenith before George walked for free to the Philadelphia 76ers in 2024.</p><p>Oklahoma City Thunder exec Sam Presti used the trade to amass an arsenal of draft picks. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has risen to the upper echelon of NBA superstars as a perennial MVP candidate, and the Thunder grabbed All-Star Jalen Williams with the Clippers' 2022 pick. The Cavs also succeeded in getting Jarrett Allen for Dante Exum and picks.</p><p>A slew of injuries and controversy surrounding vaccine statuses during a pandemic didn't help, but this Nets trifecta was doomed for failure from the start. The trio played together just 16 times before Harden became irritated and demanded a trade. If the Nets got burned on the Harden get, they made off like gangbusters in shipping Durant to a Suns organization that fetishizes ill-advised moves. Irving was also traded to the Dallas Mavericks days earlier.</p><p>Let's forget all the other moving parts here and view this transaction from the Nets' perspective. Thanks to Mikal Bridges' eventual trade to the Knicks in 2024 for four unprotected picks, Brooklyn has essentially acquired nine first-round picks from 2023 to 2031, a quartet of second-rounders from 2025 to 2030, and two pick swaps in 2028 in exchange for Durant. Should the Nets be able to parlay this draft capital into any form of success, this could rival the Thunder's haul in the George deal.</p>

Defensive Player of the Year front-runner Wembanyama has improved in nearly every category after a historic rookie campaign, including efficiency, where the Frenchman is seventh in the league at <strong> </strong>24.4 behind the likes of Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The 19-22 Spurs are also exponentially better with him on the court (plus-3.7) than they are when he sits (minus-9.8).</p><p>The 21-year-old is currently top 15 in the NBA in scoring and rebounds, and his 4 blocked shots per game are 1.5 more than the next-closest competitor. But it would be irresponsible not to have a second Thunder standout join Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in San Francisco, and this Thunder team is a force at both ends because of Williams, a superstar in the making.</p><p>Williams is one of six players averaging at least 20 points, five boards, five assists and 1.5 steals per game this season, and he's been an adaptable cure-all for a team that's played large portions of the campaign without Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein. In the absence of a rim-protecting big, 6-foot-6 J-Dub has assumed the role of frontcourt stopper's for the league's best defense and is fifth in the NBA with 3.6 deflections per game. And who better than Sengun to become the first player since James Harden and Russell Westbrook (2019-20) to represent Houston? Jalen Green is the Rockets' leading scorer (21.5), but Sengun is the central focus of an offense that has somewhat surprisingly vaulted into the top 10 in offensive rating (113.9).</p><p>Sengun's rebounding, assist, and block returns are up this season, and he's averaging a combined 4.9 steals, blocks, and deflections per game. The Rockets own the league's fourth-best defensive rating (107.7), and it's largely because of him. Once considered merely a defensive spark plug off the bench, Powell moved into Ty Lue's starting five this season and has emerged as an efficient point of attack.</p><p>His 23.7 points per game mark the highest average of his 10-year career, and he's been lights out from the perimeter, shooting 44.1% from deep on eight attempts per game - both career highs. He's just doing so a little later than expected due to injuries and Monty Williams' turbulent spell in the Motor City.</p><p>Cunningham is enjoying career bests in nearly every statistical category and has led the Pistons to a 22-21 record that's already eclipsed their win total in four of the last five seasons. The fourth-year big has emerged as one of the league's best two-way talents. He was already an elite defender, and he's top 10 in blocks and contested shots, but he's now also blossoming into a star at the other end.</p><p>Once a head-fake savant, the 23-year-old is taking on more of the offensive load under Kenny Atkinson. But things would be much worse without Herro's career-defining campaign, especially considering how atrocious Adebayo has been at the offensive end.</p><p>Herro is picking up the slack with career bests in points, field-goal percentage, and 3-point percentage, and his efficiency is the result of improved shot selection. Herro is taking fewer midrange shots and more from beyond the arc (a career-high 9.6 attempts per game). The Heat are also far better on offense with Herro on the floor versus when he sits (113.9 ORTG compared to 103.9). He's shooting 37.1% from beyond the arc, an impressive percentage considering he attempts nine per game. He's also shooting an astounding 62.5% from the field in the <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/players/clutch-traditional?CF=PLAYER_NAME*E*Derrick%20Whi&amp;dir=A&amp;sort=FG_PCT">clutch</a> and leads all guards with 52 blocks, numbers that cement his value as an elite two-way contributor.</p>

<p>For Gael Monfils, age is but a number.</p><p>Monfils is off to the round of 16 at the Australian Open courtesy of a 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (1), 6-4 upset victory over fourth-seeded Taylor Fritz.</p><p>The 38-year-old Frenchman will look to progress to the quarterfinals in Melbourne for the third time in his career, his joint-best finish in the previous 18 times he's competed at the tournament.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Monfils next faces Ben Shelton, who defeated Lorenzo Mussetti 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) later Saturday.</p><p>After dropping the first set, Monfils stormed back to take the second before snatching a one-set advantage on the 27-year-old American thanks to a one-sided tiebreaker. </p><p>Monfils' diverse shot selection and robust serve were the difference, and that carried over to the fourth and final set. He's reached at least one ATP Tour singles final every year for 19 consecutive seasons from 2005 to 2023, and he is one of just five players in the Open Era to accomplish the feat in 19 or more seasons.</p><p>Earlier in January, Monfils won the ASB Classic in Auckland to surpass Roger Federer as the oldest player to win an ATP Tour title since the tour was established in 1990.</p><p>Monfils' wife, Elina Svitolina, was set to face the fourth seed in the women's draw, Jasmine Paolini, on the same court next. "I think I warmed up the court for her," Monfils said after the victory over Fritz.</p>
