LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Athletics will play in Northern California for at least the next three seasons, but will also represent their future home in Las Vegas and brought four of their star players to drive home that point.
The team announced a three-year agreement Friday with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority as its official travel partner. Players will wear a patch with Las Vegas' official logo on their left sleeves beginning in the regular season.
“Every time one of our players gets up to bat now, you're going to see right in that camera shot ‘Las Vegas,’” A's owner John Fisher said. “For us, that's our future. Everybody, I think, is going to look at that and say, ‘We can't wait.”

After leaving Oakland at the end of the 2024 season. the A’s will play at least three seasons at a Triple-A ballpark in West Sacramento, California. They hope their Las Vegas stadium will open for the 2028 season.
Fisher said the agreement with the LVCVA will be more than just a sponsorship agreement. He said there will be other events before the move that will “remind everybody on a continual basis that Las Vegas is our home and we will be here shortly.”
The A's, who will play the Arizona Diamondbacks in spring training games Saturday and Sunday at the home of their Triple-A affiliate at Las Vegas Ballpark, brought a quartet of players to the announcement to show off the new patches.
That included outfielder Lawrence Butler, who just the day before <a href="https://apnews.com/article/athletics-as-butler-contract-ba0ace06bb1ccc068aa6adac277f4f36?utm_source=copy&amp;utm_medium=share">agreed to a $65.5 million, seven-year contract</a>. Also present was designated hitter Brent Rooker, who in January <a href="https://apnews.com/article/brent-rooker-athletics-contract-2e18c3ba916789efcbbef1d4c451ff64?utm_source=copy&amp;utm_medium=share">came to terms</a> with a $60 million, five-year deal.
“I think for the first time we were able to sign some of our younger stars to longer-term contracts with the idea we want them to be on our team when we move to this incredible home,” Fisher said.
Two other key players also attended — catcher Shea Langeliers and right-hander Mason Miller. Langeliers hit 29 home runs and drove in 80 runs last season and Miller recorded 28 saves with a 2.49 ERA.
Players also attended Friday night's NHL game between the Vegas Golden Knights and Pittsburgh Penguins.
This came a day after the A's revealed updated renderings of the new stadium, which is scheduled to undergo a groundbreaking this spring provided the remaining legal agreements are finalized.
“As athletes, our focus is always on the present and putting together as good of a team as we can for the 2025 season,” Rooker said. “But at the same time, seeing all those renderings and all of this come together, knowing what our future looks like both on the field and where it's going to take place is super cool.”

The third-seeded Blue Devils (24-7), who have won four in a row, will play No. 2 seed Notre Dame in Saturday's semifinals.

Louisville made 1 of 5 shots and turned the ball over five times in the first seven minutes of the second quarter in falling behind 23-13. Nyla Harris ended the Cardinals' six-minute scoring drought with a basket, but Taina Mair buried a 3-pointer with two seconds left as the Blue Devils closed the half on an 8-3 run for a 31-18 advantage. 
Duke held Louisville to two points through the first four minutes of the third quarter and the Blue Devils used back-to-back 3-pointers by Jackson and a three-point play by Fournier to up their lead to 41-20. Jackson finished with eight points in the period and Duke led 45-30.
Louisville scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter, but Okananwa answered with a three-point play and Duke maintained a double-digit lead from there.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Shane Lowry loves the grind of a strong test and it's showing at Bay Hill. He had six birdies Friday in slightly tamer conditions for a 5-under 67, giving him a two-shot lead going into the weekend at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
It wasn't as cold as the day before. The wind was minimal. Bay Hill still had some bite, as Wyndham Clark, Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele showed at various times.
Lowry, playing alongside good friend Rory McIlroy, holed a 35-foot birdie putt on the 13th and closed with an 18-foot birdie to lead by two over Clark.

Corey Conners (70) and Collin Morikawa (68) were three shots behind, followed by McIlroy (70) and Jason Day, who has reunited with longtime coach Colin Swatton and posted a 64 for the lowest score of the tournament.
“I think it's my iron play is good, and conservative when it needs to be,” Lowry said in explaining why he enjoys a tough test. “I just like the grind of ‘pars are good,’ you know? There's a lot of weeks out here where you shoot level par for nine holes and you feel like you're beating your head against the wall. Whereas weeks like this, level par after nine, you're actually doing OK. You're a run away from having a lovely day.
“I like the type of golf where any time you break 70 you feel like you've had a good day.”
Lowry was at 8-under 136, the only player in the field to break 70 both days.
Eighteen players remained under par going into the weekend, and Scheffler was happy to be one of them. He had a rough time on the front nine, particularly a three-putt for double bogey on the par-3 second hole when he missed a 30-inch putt.
Scheffler, the defending champion, was bogey-free on the back nine, taking two putts for birdies on the par 5s and finishing with an 15-foot birdie for a 72. He was seven behind.
Clark was sailing along beautifully, going one shot ahead when Lowry made a soft bogey on the par-5 16th by missing a 4-foot par putt. That didn't last long. Clark hit his drive out-of-bounds on the 15th and had to <a href="https://x.com/PGATOUR/status/1898129033885360141">make a 20-foot putt to escape with double bogey</a>.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever fist-pumped a double bogey,” Clark said. “I was pissed off with the tee shot, and I knew it was important to keep the momentum. Any shot is important. I don’t fist pump that much, but to me it just was more of like an internal thing like ‘Let’s go!’ And gave me kind of some momentum for the last three holes.”
Schauffele had back-to-back double bogeys and answered with three birdies in the next four holes. He wound up with a 71 and was 12 shots out of the lead, but the double major champion could claim a small victory <a href="https://apnews.com/article/xander-schauffele-cut-streak-arnold-palmer-invitational-tiger-787c41666be88908ebb9c66c11a999b9">by making his 58th consecutive cut dating to the 2022 Masters</a>.
Justin Thomas took a double bogey from the bunker on the par-3 14th that slowed his momentum, though he recovered with two birdies on the last three holes for a 70. He was in the group five shots behind that included Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley (72).
Clark shared the 36-hole lead at Bay Hill a year ago and finished second. Lowry shared with 54-hole lead with Scheffler and finished third. Last year was the first time Lowry and Clark broke 70 at Bay Hill, so they appear to have figured something out.
That doesn't guarantee much.
“It’s funny, when you have success — especially on a difficult place like this — it doesn’t mean you come here the next year and you have a God-given right to go and play well,” Lowry said. "You still need to play your game and execute. So I was conscious of that. Even though today’s conditions were a lot easier than yesterday, this golf course still doesn’t give you anything.
“I guess when you start to see a few good shots around here and you start to see a few putts going in it makes it a bit easier.”
The real grind came at the end of the day. The 36-hole cut to top 50 and ties was at 4-over 148, and a few players were right on the bubble. Lucas Glover was one shot below the line when he holed a 10-foot birdie putt on the 16th and chipped in from just off the green at the 17th.
Max McGreevy was two shots below the cut line and responded with an 18-foot birdie putt on the 15th, a two-putt birdie on the 16th and an 18-foot par putt on the 17th. 
That leaves 51 players from the 72-man field, all of them chasing Lowry.
<hl2>Divots</hl2>Auburn sophomore Jackson Koivun had another 72 to make the cut, giving him 19 points in the PGA Tour University “Accelerated” program. He needs 20 to secure a PGA Tour card. Koivun could earn that final point by finishing in the top 10. ... Max Homa didn't recover from an opening 81. He has missed three straight cuts for the first time since June 2020.

Stanton was back at the Yankees' spring training complex on Friday. Boone was quoted as saying the five-time All-Star is not likely to play in any exhibition games.
Stanton said on Feb. 17 after reporting to camp that he had <a href="https://apnews.com/article/stanton-giancarlo-tendinitis-yankees-c502c6ceead44c67125ffb49c7fa3b2f">not swung a bat in three or four weeks</a> because of pain in both elbows. The Yankees said he had been in New York, where he received two rounds of PRP injections.

Stanton hit .233 with 27 homers and 72 RBIs while playing 114 games last year, his season interrupted by a strained left hamstring that sidelined him between June 22 and July 29. Stanton batted .273 with seven homers and 16 RBIs in the postseason.
He signed a then-record <a href="https://apnews.com/stanton-signs-record-325m-deal-at-news-conference-be77607e9c2941b98c4213ecff2b21e3">$325 million, 13-year contract</a> with the Marlins ahead of the 2015 season and had 59 homers and 132 RBIs in 2017, winning the NL MVP award. He was acquired by the Yankees that December and hit 38 homers with 100 RBIs in his first season with New York.
He missed 266 of 708 games over the next five seasons because of a series of injuries that included strains of right biceps, right knee, left hamstring (twice) and left quadriceps along with right ankle inflammation and left Achilles tendinitis.
