Report: Former boxer Derrick Jefferson in coma due to coronavirus

Former heavyweight boxing contender Derrick Jefferson is in a medically induced coma in a Beaumont, Michigan, hospital due to the coronavirus, reports ESPN's Dan Rafael.

Jefferson's son, Janari, recently told a Detroit news station that his father underwent a test that came back negative but then underwent a second examination after he continued to experience symptoms. The second test came back positive.

The 52-year-old Jefferson boxed from 1995-2005. He fought Wladimir Klitschko for a world title in 2001, losing the bout by second-round knockout.

Across his career, Jefferson amassed a 28-4-1 record with 21 knockouts.
