Report: Davis, Santa Cruz to fight at Mohegan Sun on Oct. 24
WBA regular lightweight champion Gervonta Davis and WBA junior lightweight champion Leo Santa Cruz will square off in a Showtime pay-per-view fight on Oct. 24 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, sources told Mike Coppinger of The Athletic.
An official announcement is expected on Wednesday, according to Coppinger.
Davis and Santa Cruz were supposed to have fought in Los Angeles earlier this summer, but the coronavirus pandemic delayed their bout.
In May, it was reported they agreed to a fight this fall at 130 pounds. It's likely the October fight will indeed be contested at 130, Coppinger reports, necessitating a five-pound drop for Davis.
Santa Cruz owns a career 37-1-1 record, and he enters this bout after winning his last five fights. The 31-year-old last entered the ring in November 2019, when he scored a unanimous win over Miguel Flores.
The undefeated Davis has registered all but one of his 23 career victories via knockout. He earned the WBA regular lightweight belt by knocking out Yuriorkis Gamboa last December.
In February, Davis was arrested on domestic violence charges.
