Pacquiao's coach: Fight vs. 'bum' McGregor not worth it
One of Manny Pacquiao's longtime trainers apparently doesn't think much of UFC superstar Conor McGregor.
McGregor, who crossed over to boxing to face Floyd Mayweather in 2017, said earlier this year that he wants another shot in the ring, expressing interest in a bout against Pacquiao or a Mayweather rematch. Pacquiao signed on with the management group that represents McGregor in February, leading to speculation that a match could be in the works.
But Justin Fortune, Pacquiao's strength-and-conditioning coach, doesn't think it makes sense for the world boxing champion to agree to that fight.
"Why even make that guy (McGregor) rich?" Fortune told The Manila Times, according to MMA Junkie's Simon Samano. "And it won't do (anything) for Pacquiao as far as his legacy (is concerned).
"Remember, this is just my opinion: Manny goes down as the greatest fighter in history when he finishes because no one has done what he accomplished in boxing. Why destroy your legacy for a bum like McGregor?"
If Pacquiao does square off with the former UFC two-division champion, Fortune sees it being an easy night for the legendary Filipino fighter.
"Manny will destroy Conor McGregor inside three rounds," Fortune said. "He will obliterate him. Too fast and too strong as an amazing fighter. McGregor is nothing."
