Davis improves to 24-0 with 23 KOs, taking the WBA junior lightweight title from Santa Cruz in the process.
"He was just right there for it," the 25-year-old phenom said of his fight-ending uppercut, according to DAZN. "I baited him right in."
Santa Cruz, meanwhile, drops to 37-2-1, taking the first knockout loss of his career. The 32-year-old hadn't lost a fight since 2016.
At the time of the knockout, Davis was leading on all three judge's scorecards 48-47, according to Mike Coppinger of The Athletic.
This was the first boxing match in which two titles at different weight classes were up for grabs since Floyd Mayweather Jr. defeated Marcos Maidana in their 2014 rematch.
