Buster Douglas would 'welcome' opportunity to fight Tyson again
James "Buster" Douglas, who upset Mike Tyson 30 years ago to become the undisputed heavyweight champion, is open to facing him again.
The 60-year-old Douglas spoke about the possibility of a rematch after Tyson made his return to the boxing ring Saturday night in an eight-round exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr.
"Sure, I would welcome the opportunity," Douglas told USA Today's Josh Peter. "Being a prizefighter all those years and still feeling pretty good today, you always feel you got one more fight in you."
Douglas was a 42-to-1 underdog entering his fight against the then 37-0 Tyson on Feb. 11, 1990. He went on to defeat "Iron Mike" via 10th-round knockout in what is regarded as one of the greatest upsets in sports history.
"I've been asked about it in casual conversation," Douglas said of a possible rematch. "They always ask, 'Why didn't you guys have a rematch?'
"It was just never presented, really, as far as a rematch. It was often mentioned. That's about it.'"
Douglas' last professional fight was in 1999, but he noted he could be ready to return to the ring in six-to-eight weeks. Tyson, meanwhile, has said he's planning future fights as part of his Legends Only League.
