Tyson-Jones fight generated $80M in pay-per-view revenue
The exhibition bout between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. proved to be a big moneymaker.
Tyson's Legends Only League announced the Nov. 28 fight sold more than 1.6 million pay-per-view buys and generated more than $80 million in revenue, according to Josh Peter of USA Today.
Azim Spicer, Tyson's brother-in-law and Legends Only League co-owner, said late pay-per-view buys are still being calculated and could result in hundreds of thousands of extra orders.
Triller owner Ryan Kavanaugh, whose company distributed the fight, told BoxingScene.com that it's expected to rank among the top-10 most purchased pay-per-view events of all time.
"Despite everyone wanting for it not to work, we upset them by changing things up and making it work and dominated the conversation," Kavanaugh said.
Tyson, 54, reportedly made nearly $10 million from the fight, while Jones, 51, took home $3 million.
