Trevante Rhodes to play Tyson in 'Iron Mike' series
Hulu's Mike Tyson biopic has found its lead.
Trevante Rhodes, who starred in the 2016 Academy Award-winning film "Moonlight," will portray Tyson in the streaming service's series, "Iron Mike," according to Peter White of Deadline. Production is set to begin later in 2021.
The eight-part series will explore the life and career of the controversial former heavyweight champion. "I, Tonya" screenwriter Craig Gillespie and director Steven Rogers are both involved with the project, as is "I, Tonya" star Margot Robbie, who will serve as an executive producer.
Tyson called for a boycott of the series in a since-deleted Instagram post in February, describing it as a "tone-deaf cultural misappropriation of the Tyson life story" and taking issue with it being announced during Black History Month.
Another biographical series about Tyson is in the works, with Jamie Foxx starring as the boxing legend. Tyson and his wife Kiki Tyson are among the executive producers of that series.
