Ryan Garcia was forced to withdraw from his Nov. 27 lightweight bout against Joseph Diaz Jr. after suffering a significant hand injury in training, Golden Boy Promotions announced Friday.
Garcia will have surgery to repair his right hand on Monday in Los Angeles.
The 23-year-old hopes to reschedule the fight against "JoJo" for February, sources told ESPN's Mike Coppinger.
Garcia was looking to top his career-best performance against Luke Campbell in January, which resulted in a seventh-round TKO victory. Garcia is undefeated at 21-0 with 18 knockouts.
Diaz (32-1-1, 15 KOs), who's coming off July's unanimous decision win over Javier Fortuna, holds the WBC interim lightweight title.
