White shuts down Canelo-Usman: 'Let's stop this shit'
UFC president Dana White doesn't see a crossover match between boxing star Canelo Alvarez and UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman happening anytime soon.
"I watched the Canelo fight tonight," White said at the UFC 268 postfight press conference Saturday, according to MMA Fighting. "(Usman) don't want to fight Canelo. ... Come on, man. Let's stop this shit."
Usman defeated Colby Covington by unanimous decision on the same night that Alvarez became the undisputed super middleweight champion with an 11th-round TKO of Caleb Plant.
Usman said last week he was interested in a boxing match against Alvarez and would talk to the UFC brass about making it happen after the Covington fight. However, White only seems interested in pairing up Usman with Alvarez in mixed martial arts.
"If Canelo wants to come over here (to the UFC), let's do it," White said. "(Usman) don't want to box Canelo."
Alvarez and Usman are both widely regarded as the top pound-for-pound fighter in their respective sport.
