Haney defends belt, beats JoJo Diaz Jr. in decision to stay undefeated
Devin Haney defended his WBC lightweight title by defeating Joseph 'JoJo' Diaz Jr. by unanimous decision at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday.
The 23-year-old remains undefeated and improves his record to 27-0 with 15 knockouts. Meanwhile, the 29-year-old Diaz falls to 32-2-1 with 15 KOs. Neither boxer has been knocked down in their careers.
Despite losing via unanimous decision, the southpaw put up a good fight against Haney in the 12-round bout, with two judges scoring 117-111 and one at 116-112.
Haney's victory seems to set up a fight against George Kambosos Jr., who currently holds the WBA, WBO, IBF titles in the 135-pound division. The 28-year-old Australian beat Teofimo Lopez last week at Madison Square Garden and attended Saturday's event.
Following the bout, Kambosos (20-0, 10 KOs) expressed interest in taking on Haney and wants the fight to take place in Australia.
