Ryan Garcia to return from layoff vs. Emmanuel Tagoe in April
Ryan Garcia is set to finally return to the ring.
Garcia will face off with Emmanuel Tagoe in a lightweight fight on April 9 in San Antonio, Garcia's promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, announced Friday.
The 23-year-old star hasn't competed since scoring a seventh-round TKO against Luke Campbell in January 2021.
He was scheduled to fight Javier Fortuna last July, but he pulled out to focus on his mental health. Then, Garcia was booked against Joseph Diaz Jr. in November. However, that contest was canceled after Garcia suffered a wrist injury that required surgery.
Garcia, a former WBC interim lightweight champion, holds a 21-0 professional record with 18 knockouts.
Tagoe is coming off an even longer layoff, having not fought since a November 2020 win over Mason Menard. The 33-year-old is 32-1 as a pro with 15 knockouts and hasn't lost since his pro debut in 2004.
