Haney says Lomachenko fight targeted for May 20
It appears a fight between undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney and former titleholder Vasiliy Lomachenko is all but a done deal.
Haney said Sunday that the highly anticipated matchup is in the works for this spring.
"Me and Loma are definitely getting it on," Haney said on the Jake Paul-Tommy Fury broadcast. "May 20 is the date."
Haney added it would be a "blessing" to stage the Lomachenko fight in Saudi Arabia.
Haney defeated George Kambosos Jr. last June to become the first undisputed lightweight champion in the four-belt era. He then dominated Kambosos in a rematch in October. Haney has been a world champion since 2019.
Lomachenko, the former unified lightweight champ, has won three straight since losing his titles to Teofimo Lopez in October 2020. The Ukrainian fighter is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Jamaine Ortiz last October.
