Report: Canelo set to defend super middleweight title vs. Jermall Charlo
It appears Canelo Alvarez has his next opponent.
Alvarez is set to put his undisputed super middleweight championship on the line in a fight against Jermall Charlo on Sept. 16, sources told ESPN's Mike Coppinger.
The 32-year-old also announced that he had a "done deal" to join Premier Boxing Champions. It's expected to be a three-fight deal between PBC and Alvarez, Coppinger reports.
Alvarez had been with DAZN since 2018 after inking a five-year, $365-million contract with the streaming service.
Canelo's last fight came in May when he defeated John Ryder via unanimous decision. Alvarez owns a career 59-2-2 record with 39 knockouts.
Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) has been idle since June 2021, when he retained his WBC middleweight title with a unanimous-decision victory over Juan Macias Montiel.
