Report: Tank Davis, Frank Martin to fight for WBA lightweight belt
Gervonta "Tank" Davis and Frank Martin reached an agreement on a deal to fight for Davis' WBA lightweight title, sources told ESPN's Mike Coppinger.
The fight will take place in the late spring or early summer, although a firm date hasn't been set, according to Coppinger. It will be broadcast as a PBC pay-per-view bout.
Davis (29-0 with 27 wins via knockout) was elevated from the "regular" WBA lightweight titleholder to the organization's sole 135-pound champion after Devin Haney vacated his belt in December. He successfully defended the "regular" title five times after winning it from Leo Santa Cruz in 2020.
The 29-year-old's most recent bout took place last April, when he scored a knockout win over Ryan Garcia in a non-title catchweight fight. Davis' last title fight happened in January 2023 against Hector Garcia, and he won via technical knockout.
Martin, 29, owns a lifetime 18-0 record with 12 victories via knockout. His most recent fight was a decision victory over Artem Harutyunyan on July 15 in Las Vegas. He accepted the title shot against Davis a few months after turning down a chance to fight Shakur Stevenson for the vacant WBC lightweight belt.
