Mike Tyson to face Jake Paul in boxing match on July 20
Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson will fight rising star Jake Paul in a boxing match on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Most Valuable Promotions announced Thursday.
The event will air on Netflix.
"Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson is a once-in-a-lifetime dream matchup, and I anticipate it will be the most-watched boxing event in modern boxing history," MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian said.
Paul and Tyson have a history together. Paul's second professional fight came on a Nov. 28, 2020, undercard between Tyson and Roy Jones Jr., in which Paul knocked out former pro basketball player Nate Robinson.
"It's crazy to think that in my second pro fight, I went viral for knocking out Nate Robinson on Mike Tyson's undercard. Now, less than four years later, I'm stepping up to face Tyson myself to see if I have what it takes to beat one of boxing's most notorious fighters and biggest icons," Paul said.
It has yet to be determined if the match between the 57-year-old Tyson and YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul will be an exhibition or professional bout. Tyson hasn't fought since a 2020 draw against Jones.
"I'm very much looking forward to stepping into the ring with Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas," Tyson said.
"He's grown significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a 'kid' can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT. It's a full circle moment that will be beyond thrilling to watch; as I started him on his boxing journey on the undercard of my fight with Roy Jones, and now I plan to finish him."
Paul scored a first-round technical knockout win over Ryan Bourland in Puerto Rico last weekend, which followed a first-round knockout win over Andre August in December. He's 9-1 as a professional with his only loss coming against Tommy Fury in February 2023.
Tyson holds a 50-6 professional record with two no contests over an illustrious career, including an undisputed heavyweight championship reign from 1987-90.
