Garcia: I'm only retired until suspension ends

Two days after appearing to retire from boxing, Ryan Garcia reversed course.

The controversial fighter, who was handed a one-year suspension Thursday following two positive drug tests, clarified that his announced retirement is merely until his ban expires next April.

"I'm retiring for a year so they don't get the satisfaction for suspending me 'cause it's bull," Garcia told TMZ on Friday. "I never took steroids in my life. They can all suck wieners."

The New York State Athletic Commission banned Garcia and fined him $10,000 after two drug tests relating to his April 20 win over Devin Haney returned positive for ostarine, a performance-enhancing drug. Garcia's victory was also struck from the record and overturned to a no-contest. He'd missed weight before the bout, making him ineligible to claim Haney's WBC junior welterweight title.

Though he avoided a hearing with the NYSAC through a settlement, Garcia has maintained his innocence, with his camp alleging that the samples were contaminated.

"It does (hurt)," he said of the suspension. "(Haney's) a 'b,' and his daddy's a 'b.' The only reason I'm not cussing is 'cause my daughter's here."

The 25-year-old, who owns a 24-1 professional record along with the no-contest, is already thinking about how he'll stay busy over the next year. Garcia indicated that he's considering a move to other combat sports, including MMA.

"I like (UFC bantamweight Sean O'Malley) 'cause he defended me," Garcia said. "But if he really wants to run it in the UFC, I'll run it. Or bare knuckle. Shit, I'm ready to fight anyone at this point."
