Crawford eyes megafight with Canelo: 'Makes the most sense'
Terence "Bud" Crawford is open to setting up a dream matchup with Canelo Álvarez.
Despite his interest in the megafight, Crawford has recently been connected to a bout with IBF welterweight champion Jaron Ennis. "Boots" mentioned Crawford as a possible opponent following a win in July over David Avanesyan, saying, "Let's make it happen."
However, Crawford said Monday he believes he has more to gain by fighting Álvarez.
"Where I'm at right now, I'm looking at the fight that makes the most sense, and that's not Boots," Crawford told Ariel Helwani on "The MMA Hour."
"Canelo's gonna bring way more to my legacy and way more to my bank account. Because at the end of the day, when boxing is done with, what will we have? I want to have a legacy that's something people talk about for ages. And I want to have a bank account that would last for ages as well."
Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) is moving up to junior middleweight to challenge WBA champion Israil Madrimov on Aug. 3 in Los Angeles.
The 36-year-old is widely considered among the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. Crawford defeated Errol Spence Jr. last July to become the undisputed welterweight champion.
Álvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) defeated Jaime Munguia via unanimous decision in May to retain his super middleweight titles.
