Canelo, Berlanga make weight for unified title fight
Canelo Álvarez and Edgar Berlanga made weight Friday ahead of their unified super middleweight championship bout Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Álvarez and Berlanga weighed in at 166.8 and 167.7 pounds, respectively, according to ESPN's Mike Coppinger.
Álvarez, the Mexican-born WBA, WBC, and WBO 168-pound champion, is seeking another victory during Mexican Independence Day weekend. He's riding a four-fight winning streak and last defended his titles in May with a unanimous decision over Jaime Munguia.
Álvarez was the undisputed super middleweight champ until the IBF stripped him in July.
Berlanga is putting his undefeated 22-0 record on the line in his first world title fight. He earned the right to face Álvarez with a sixth-round stoppage of Padraig McCrory in February.
