Eubank fined £100,000 for slapping Benn with egg at media event
Chris Eubank Jr. has been fined £100,000 by the the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) after he slapped Conor Benn at a news conference promoting their April fight.
Eubank hit Benn in the face with an egg during their heated stare-down Feb. 25 in Manchester, England. Chaos ensued on stage, and Benn was held back by security.
The BBBofC said in a statement Tuesday that after a hearing, Eubank "was found to be in breach" of a misconduct rule, according to The Ring's Matt Penn.
Eubank and Benn are scheduled to meet in a highly anticipated middleweight bout April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
The two were originally slated to fight in 2022, but the matchup was canceled after Benn failed two pre-fight drug tests. He has since been cleared to compete.
