Dortmund manager disappointed by Hummels' decision to leave
There was very little talk about Borussia Dortmund's upcoming match against VfL Wolfsburg when manager Thomas Tuchel met with the press Friday.
Instead, the Dortmund boss was forced to weigh in on Thursday's news that defender Mats Hummels has submitted a request to leave the team and join rivals Bayern Munich.
While he was obviously disappointed after learning his top centre-back is seeking a move away from the Westfalenstadion, Tuchel appeared to be relieved that the news was out in the open, explaining the dilemma Borussia Dortmund finds itself in when competing against a team such as Bayern.
Thomas Tuchel: "Glad Hummel's intentions are out in the open now. In sporting terms it is a disappointment."

Tuchel: "We have to accept that there is a category of clubs that are above us and Bayern are among these clubs."

Tuchel: "We will continue to try to play in such a way that the advantage such clubs have over us is not obvious."

Tuchel acknowledged that there will likely be a faction of supporters who will voice their anger during Saturday's contest, but says he remains committed to deploying Hummels at the back right up until the final game of the season.
Tuchel: "For tomorrow and the rest of the season Mats remains part of our team."

Tuchel: "Nobody has their heads down because of Mats' decision. Nobody should take it personally."

His session with the media was dominated by questions about Hummels until the team's press officer asked reporters to refrain from asking about the German centre-back.
The team released a statement Thursday revealing the 27-year-old's intention to leave this summer and seek a move to his former club.
