Hummels joined Dortmund initially on loan from Bayern in 2008, and made his move permanent a year later. He became captain in 2014, but a return to his birth city is now a real possibility.
The 27-year-old would be the third Dortmund player in three years to depart BVB for the Bavarian giant, following in the footsteps of Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski.
