Carlo Ancelotti's son named assistant coach at Bayern Munich
Like father, like son.
On Sunday, Davide Ancelotti, the son of Carlo Ancelotti, was named an assistant coach at Bayern Munich. The appointment marks the first-ever father-son coaching duo in Bundesliga history, according to Mark Lovell of ESPN FC.
Davide, 27, was a youth player at AC Milan and, after failing to make it as a professional footballer, was employed as a fitness coach at Real Madrid, also working under his father.
"My tasks at FC Bayern are to support our coaches, both during training and match preparations, as well as during games," Davide explained. "I help explain exercises or sometimes just help out with the language. My father speaks German well, but he doesn't understand everything yet. I can speak German so well because I've been studying it for eight months.
"I like the language; it's difficult but I find it very interesting. The thing I'm looking forward to the most at FC Bayern is lots of things. I'm looking forward to learning many things here - as a coach, but also as a person, like a new culture and a new language."
Bayern kicks off its 2016-17 Bundesliga adventure Friday at home to SV Werder Bremen.
