The superbly named Dutchman Bas Dost has joined Sporting Lisbon from VfL Wolfsburg, addressing the attacking void vacated by Joao Mario.

The striker was subject to plenty of interest from English football, but has instead shifted to the Portuguese Primeira Liga on a four-year contract following a glowing recommendation from compatriot and former Lion Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Dost, 27, has a €60-million buyout clause written into his deal at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

After making strides in professional football at FC Emmen, Heracles Almelo and SC Heerenveen in his homeland, Dost moved to Lower Saxony in 2012. He quickly replicated his goalscoring form in the Bundesliga, with 2014-15 marking his most fruitful term, with 16 goals through 17 starts.

He represents another shrewd piece of business by manager Jorge Jesus in the transfer window, and Dost will compete with fellow newcomers Alan Ruiz, Andre, and Lukas Spalvis for a place up front.
