German centre-back Philipp Wollscheid returned to his homeland Wednesday, reuniting with old boss Dieter Hecking at Wolfsburg.
Wollscheid ended his short stay at Stoke City - the club he first joined on loan in January 2015 - with Bruno Martins Indi filling the void in the heart of the defence.
The Potters later announced the terms of the deal, with the player moving to the Volkswagen Arena on an season-long loan. Wolfsburg has the right to make the signing permanent.

The 27-year-old started in Stoke's first two Premier League matches this season against Middlesbrough and Manchester City, but sat out last weekend's loss to Everton.
He was also a regular fixture on Mark Hughes' team sheet over the past year and a half.
Wollscheid will now link up with Hecking, having earned his senior debut under the German manager at Nurnberg in 2010.
He represents Wolfsburg's 10th signing of the window, and will likely form a defensive partnership with fellow summer acquisition Jeffrey Bruma.
