Captain Clemens Fritz is campaigning for Arsenal captain Per Mertesacker to come back to Werder Bremen.
The pair have not played alongside one another since 2011 when Mertesacker signed for Arsenal.
But now, with Mertesacker's place in the first team under threat at Arsenal since the arrival of compatriot Shkodran Mustafi, a move back to the Bundesliga outfit could be on the horizon.
"It would be a good thing for the club," Fritz told Bild, as translated by ESPNFC's Stephan Uersfeld.
He added that the matter has come up in conversations with the centre-back: "We've talked about it (a return to Bremen)."
Bremen isn't alone - Mertesacker's former clubs, Hannover and Wolfsburg, have also expressed interest in reuniting with the 32-year-old.
Mertesacker could very well be on the move this summer when his contract expires.
