Real Madrid board: We would welcome Chicharito back
Another stint at the Santiago Bernabeu could be in the cards for Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, according to Real Madrid board members.
The Mexican international struggled to make a mark with the Spanish side when he joined Real on loan from Manchester United in 2014.
However, the Spanish giants could be open to adding Chicharito back into the fold after he revived his career in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen.
"Yes, I would like that," Real board member Santiago Aguado said to FOX Sports, as translated by ESPNFC. "We believe he is a great player."
During his brief spell in Spain, Chicharito, who scored nine goals in 33 appearances, often found himself on the bench behind Real's potent attacking trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, and Karim Benzema.
But fellow board member Manuel Cerezo feels Chicharito's growth at Bayer could benefit him ahead of a possible move back to Madrid.
"Chicharito did not fully succeed at Real Madrid," Cerezo said. "But players need time to adapt, at Madrid you cannot do it overnight. He had a chance to go to Bayer and is doing very well there."
After leaving United, Chicharito took the Bundesliga by storm during his first season when he banged in 17 goals. He's carried that hot streak over to the current campaign, finding the back of the net five times over his first six league fixtures.
Considering he joined Bayer from United for €12 million, the German side can expect to make a significant profit if Chicharito maintains his form.
