Everton outcast Davy Klaassen completes £12M Werder Bremen move

Everton have cut their losses on a major disappointment.

The Toffees announced they have allowed misfit midfielder Davy Klaassen to leave Goodison Park and join Bundesliga side Werder Bremen. The Press Association states the Dutchman has moved for a fee of £12 million, which would represent a 50-percent loss on the reported £24 million they paid for the then-Ajax captain just one year ago.

Klaassen was signed by his compatriot Ronald Koeman, who was a big fan of the midfielder's qualities. Life on Merseyside started well for the 25-year-old, but once Koeman was sacked in October, things went downhill sharply. Under caretaker boss David Unsworth, Klaassen would lose his place, and he was consistently overlooked by Koeman's successor Sam Allardyce.

Marco Silva is reported to have told Klaassen soon after his appointment at the end of May that the Netherlands international did not feature in his plans, and Klaassen has now escaped his nightmare. He started a mere three Premier League games for Everton.

Klaassen told Werder Bremen's website: "The interest I received from the club was definitely an important factor in my decision. I really wanted to know exactly what they wanted from me. I was convinced to join by the ambition shown by the club.

"I had a very good feeling after meeting Florian Kohlfeldt and I want to prove that I can make a big impact here. The head coach wants to play a very open and attacking style of football and I am really excited about that."
