Ranking the best Bundesliga goals this weekend
The Bundesliga season continued this past weekend, and while many players are still getting back up to speed after the two-month hiatus, we were treated to some moments of quality over the past couple of days. Below, we rank the five best goals from Germany's top flight this weekend.
5. Dortmund's rapid counterattack
Borussia Dortmund kept the pressure on Bayern Munich at the top of the table with a 2-0 win over Wolfsburg this weekend, securing all three points through a classic counterattacking goal.
Jadon Sancho showed off his blistering pace and expert decision-making, and Achraf Hakimi provided the arrowed finish into the bottom corner. That's exactly how you draw it up.
4. Klaassen's tasty assist
Leonardo Bittencourt scored the lone goal in Werder Bremen's win over Freiburg on Saturday. But as slick as the finish was, this tally was all about the superb first-time ball from Davy Klaassen. The Dutchman hit his teammate in stride perfectly with this pass.
3. Srbeny picks out top corner
Yes, Hoffenheim defender Ermin Bicakcic completely flubbed the pass here, putting this chance on a platter for Paderborn striker Dennis Srbeny. But that shouldn't take anything away from the German forward's sumptuous strike, which flew into the top corner.
2. Lowen's picturesque free-kick
What an effort from Eduard Lowen. Augsburg trounced Schalke 3-0 on Sunday, and the midfielder's lovely free-kick was the pick of the litter. It doesn't get much more aesthetically pleasing than this.
1. RB Leipzig slice through Mainz
There's just something so satisfying about a flowing team move that cuts the defense open, and that's exactly what RB Leipzig did en route to scoring their fourth goal in Saturday's 5-0 hammering of Mainz.
Kevin Kampl and Christopher Nkunku combined wonderfully to tee up Timo Werner, who tapped home the second of his eventual three goals in the match.
