Report: Louis van Gaal ends United's pursuit of Toni Kroos
Manchester United will not be signing long-admired target Toni Kroos.
According to The Guardian's Jamie Jackson, new manager Louis van Gaal has "ended" the club's pursuit of the Bayern Munich midfielder, who has long been seen as the top priority for the Red Devils heading into the transfer window.
This, despite the fact that the 24-year-old just received a ringing endorsement from legendary United midfielder Paul Scholes.
"The first player I’d bring in is Toni Kroos. He’s a top-class central midfield player but United need five or six to get anywhere near the top of the Premier League again," Scholes told Paddy Power.
So much for that.
Kroos, whose current contract with the two-time defending German champions is set to expire in 2015, was informed today that the club have no plans to raise their latest contract offer - an offer the midfielder is reportedly dissatisfied with.
Manager Pep Guardiola has suggested that he is keen to hang on to the versatile, slick-passing star, and according to this latest report, he will not have to fight off United to do so.
