Caicara, 26, played a large role in Ludogorets' Champions League adventure last season, in which the Bulgarian club nearly emerged from the group stage after defeating FC Basel and holding Liverpool to a draw.
Schalke are in the midst of a rebuild, and completed the signing of 21-year-old defensive midfielder Johannes Geis on Tuesday.
