Netherlands captain Arjen Robben to miss Euro 2016 qualifier vs. Turkey
Netherlands forward Arjen Robben will miss a crucial Euro 2016 qualifier against Turkey on Sunday after suffering an apparent groin injury, coach Danny Blind confirmed.
Robben, who missed the past four Netherlands matches through injury, only lasted 31 minutes before making an early first-half substitution in an eventual 1-0 loss to Iceland on Thursday.
Blind admitted he hadn't yet confirmed the diagnosis.
"I've been told Robben is out of the trip to Turkey but I haven’t spoken to him or the doctor yet so I don’t know what’s wrong," Blind said.
Robben suffered through various muscular problems with Bayern Munich over the past year. He missed the final two months of the 2014-15 Bundesliga season.
The 31-year-old only recently returned to action for both club and country.
This weekend's match against Turkey holds significant sway in the race for Euro qualification. The Netherlands is currently in third place in Group A with 10 points, but Turkey is just a point behind.
The third-place teams go into the playoffs, with the top two of the bunch earning straight qualification to the Euros in France next summer.
