Arsenal's rumoured pursuit of Swiss international Granit Xhaka appears to be over after the Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director dismissed links to the English side.
The midfielder has been the focus of numerous reports linking him with a move to the Emirates Stadium since the transfer window opened, but sporting director Max Eberl closed the door on a move, adding that neither Xhaka or Gladbach is open to a switch.
"There are no offers, there is no figure that I have seen in black and white and there is no contact with Arsenal," he told German website Sport1.de as translated by The Telegraph.
"I would like to say clearly once again at this point: Granit Xhaka wants to stay in Monchengladbach and we do not want to sell him. He is a super player for us and will contest the second half of the season here. As for the figures I have seen floating round, they amuse me."
While a move in January appears to be off the table, Eberl admitted earlier in the month that the 23-year-old could be on the move when the summer transfer window opens.
Xhaka has featured regularly in manager Andre Schubert's first team, appearing in 15 games and scoring three goals to help the team soar up the Bundesliga standings following a poor start to the season.
