Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: 'My childhood dream? To play at Real Madrid'
As a child, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang visualised himself in white rather than yellow and black.
In conversation with L'Equipe, Aubameyang confessed that he dreamed of representing Real Madrid while growing up, crediting his love for Los Blancos to his late grandfather and professing his admiration for Hugo Sanchez.
"My childhood dream? To play at Real Madrid," Aubameyang said, according to DW. "In 2014, before he died, I promised my grandfather who was from Avila, 110 kilometres from Madrid, that I would play there. It will be complicated but it sits in a corner of my head.
"When I was a kid, I watched Hugo Sanchez videos. The backflip I sometimes do when I score is actually an homage to him."
It should be noted that Aubameyang joined Borussia Dortmund in 2013, only months after the club defeated Real Madrid 4-3 on aggregate in the semifinals of the 2012-13 Champions League. In the following campaign, however, Los Blancos exacted revenge en route to their record 10th title, beating the German side 3-2 on aggregate in the quarterfinals.
