New-look Argonauts look to stay in playoff hunt vs. Stampeders
It was quite the week for the Toronto Argonauts, releasing three starters from their receiving corps in hopes of adding a spark when they face the league-leading Calgary Stampeders on Monday.
Gone are Vidal Hazelton, Kevin Elliott, and Tori Gurley, leaving only Kenny Shaw from the CFL's second-worst passing offence for recently acquired quarterback Drew Willy to throw to.
Toronto is coming off a 38-11 loss to the Montreal Alouettes, prompting head coach Scott Milanovich to question the commitment level of his team, which presumably led to the roster shuffle.
The Argonauts have a 5-9 record, two points ahead of the Alouettes for third in the East Division. However, the Edmonton Eskimos (7-7) hold the crossover tiebreaker, and would bump Toronto out of a playoff spot.
Standing in the way of the Argonauts trying to keep their playoff hopes alive will be the Stampeders, who are undefeated in 13 games and have already clinched a home playoff game.
That streak has been helped recently by the play of receivers Kamar Jorden and DaVaris Daniels, who have combined for 528 yards and six touchdowns in their last four games.
