Stampeders agree to 2-year extension with Charleston Hughes
The Calgary Stampeders and Charleston Hughes have agreed to a contract extension that will keep the defensive end with the team through the 2018 season.
"Charleston is a cornerstone of our defense and 2016 was another great season for him," Stampeders general manager John Hufnagel said. "He has maintained a high level of play since he first came to Calgary and I look forward to more of the same in the future."
Hughes earned his third career All-Star selection after a 2016 campaign that saw him post a league-leading 16 sacks.
"I'm glad to get the contract taken care of," Hughes said. "I'm very happy to be back with the Stamps and I look forward to us having another great season. We have a lot of unfinished business and we just have to focus on getting even better as a team."
The 33-year-old is a two-time Grey Cup champion and is second in Stampeders franchise history with 88 sacks.
