Report: Randy Ambrosie to be named 14th CFL commissioner

The CFL has found its new commissioner.

With Jeffrey Orridge scheduled to step down in a matter of days, the league appears to have locked in on his replacement, hiring former CFL lineman Randy Ambrosie to fill the position, according to Dave Naylor of TSN.

Orridge agreed in April to step down from his position at the end of June. He departs after a two-year tenure as commissioner that began in March 2015.

In Ambrosie, the CFL gains an individual with an extensive business background who also knows what it's like to suit up in the league.

During his playing days, Ambrosie suited up for the Calgary Stampeders, Toronto Argonauts, and Edmonton Eskimos from 1985-93, capturing the 81st Grey Cup as a member of the Eskimos in 1993.

Following his retirement, Ambrosie ventured into a business career, serving as president of AGF Management Limited from 2004-09 and most recently as president and CEO of 3Macs from 2012-16, according to his LinkedIn page.
