The Calgary Stampeders will place quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell on the six-game injured list due to a broken fibula.

Mitchell injured his leg in Week 1 against the Toronto Argonauts but finished the contest and played the following week versus the BC Lions.

"He has a break in his leg, his fibula," head coach Dave Dickenson told reporters Tuesday, according to Justin Dunk of 3DownNation. "Played the whole game with it, at the time we knew he was sore. We'll be putting him on six-game, and hopefully, he's a fast healer."

Mitchell, who's been named the CFL's Most Outstanding Player twice, led the league in passing touchdowns in 2016 and 2018. He threw 19 touchdowns to 11 interceptions in 2019 but missed some games due to a pectoral injury.

The 31-year-old tried out for the Minnesota Vikings in 2019 before returning to Calgary on a four-year deal worth $2.8 million, making him one of the highest-paid players in the league.

"I've always tried to play through anything if I can to help my team," Mitchell said. "Making the smart decision now to take some time off and let the young guys take the reins. It's bad luck on where you get it. The bone will heal up, I'll drink some milk, and make sure I come back strong."

CFL sophomore Michael O'Connor is likely to start in Mitchell's place Friday against the Montreal Alouettes.
