Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Dane Evans exited the 108th Grey Cup with an apparent injury after being tackled in the second quarter.

Evans was seen on the sidelines without pads in the third quarter, meaning he won't return to the game, according to TSN's Matthew Scianitti. The exact nature of his injury is still unclear.

Evans suffered the ailment while being tackled by Winnipeg Blue Bombers defenders Steven Richardson and Willie Jefferson as he scrambled out of trouble. Jefferson was called for roughing the passer on the play.

After staying on the ground for several minutes, Evans eventually walked off the field by himself and went straight to the locker room. There was no immediate update on his status.

Jeremiah Masoli took over under center for Hamilton and continued a successful drive that resulted in a field goal. He then found Steven Dunbar Jr. in the end zone late in the first half to give the Ticats a 10-7 lead at the break.

Evans got the start after he came off the bench in the East final to lead the Ticats' comeback and clinch a Grey Cup berth. He completed just four passes for 24 yards and an interception in Sunday's title game before the injury.
