Darian Durant agrees to restructure contract with Roughriders
The Saskatchewan Roughriders endured a dreadful 3-15 season, but quarterback Darian Durant is restructuring his contract in an effort for the Riders to take a step in the right direction.
Durant was set to earn $500,000 in 2016 from a contract signed in 2013, but the veteran pivot agreed to a "significant pay cut" on his new one-year deal, signed earlier this week.
"Football is the ultimate team sport and I can't get it done by myself, no one can," Durant said. "The better personnel we can have around myself and the team the better our chances (for) success."
On top of a new contract, Durant is looking for a bounce-back season, as his 2015 campaign was limited to one start after rupturing his Achilles, one year after his 2014 season was cut short due to elbow surgery.
"I'm pretty much doing everything I need to do (in training)," he said. "I'm running straight ahead full speed."
Under new head coach Chris Jones, Durant will look to return to his usual Grey Cup champion form.
