CFL releases 2016 schedule, opens season at BMO Field
The CFL released its schedule for the 2016 season, and Week 1 will kick off at BMO Field, the new home of the Toronto Argonauts and the site of the 104th Grey Cup.
The Argos will fittingly take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats June 23, setting a dramatic stage between the two arch-rivals, with fan-favourite Chad Owens returning to Toronto for the first time in Tiger-Cat colors.
Week 1 will also feature a Grey Cup rematch, as the Ottawa Redblacks travel to Edmonton seeking revenge against the defending champion Eskimos.
Saskatchewan fans will be forced to wait an extra week to fully enjoy this season's action, as the Roughriders have a Week 1 bye and will start their season June 30 at home against Toronto.
Canada Day action will see the BC Lions travel to Hamilton, while the Winnipeg Blue Bombers will square off with the Calgary Stampeders.
Labour Day weekend, often the most anticipated weekend of the season, is scheduled for Sept. 5 and will be highlighted by the usual rivalries between Toronto and Hamilton along with Edmonton versus Calgary.
Anticipation for the season has surfaced so quickly, even city mayors are beginning to trash talk.
