Bayern coach Nagelsmann misses Benfica clash with illness
Berlin, Oct 20, 2021 (AFP) - Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann will miss his side's Champions League group stage clash with Benfica in Lisbon on Wednesday due to illness, the club said shortly before the game.
"Julian Nagelsmann is unable to be in the dugout today due to a flu-like infection," the reigning Bundesliga champions wrote on their website.
Assistant coaches Dino Toppmoeller and Xaver Zembrod would take over coaching duties in Nagelsmann's absence, Bayern added.
Bayern are out to pick up a third win in three games in Lisbon, after making a dream start to their Group E campaign with victories over Barcelona and Dynamo Kiev.
They are also without Canadian winger Alphonso Davies, who German media reported has a minor thigh complaint, and midfielder Leon Goretzka, who has a cold.
